The group marked the construction kickoff for the renovation and expansion. Roy chaired fundraising efforts during the pandemic and has raised 80% of the $5.3 million capital campaign total. The new facilities will help sustain Y programs in the diverse community for the next 50 years.

Roy volunteers at the YMCA of Middle Tennessee Year-Round Food Program. YMCA volunteers deliver groceries and supplies each week to low-income families that live near the Y. All families are offered a subsidized membership to benefit from all comprehensive YMCA support programs.

Roy says, “Every hour I spend on the Y has a significant impact on peoples’ lives. And every minute I’m enjoying the Y fitness opportunities with others, I am reminded that the Y is the great equalizer: When everyone puts on their gym clothes, they’re the same. Income, social status and family problems no longer stigmatize you.”

Roy’s volunteer leadership at the Green Hills Family Y, the YMCA of Middle Tennessee and the YMCA Mid-TN Foundation supports the Y’s promise that everyone—regardless of age, income or background—has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive at the Y.

The Full Circle outreach program gives children & adults with intellecutial and/or developmental disabilities access to classes and activities that support self- sufficiency, socialization & building relationships.

Roy talks with Elle, who welcomes thousands of people to the Y each week, about Operation Christmas Child drive. The YMCA rallies members to donate gifts and basic needs to children in impoverished countries as one of its many efforts towards Social Responsibility.
